For food in plural we will use THERE ARE and for food in singular we will use THERE IS, taking into account that in singular we can use...

Pay attention at the questions!!!! 

For plural : Are there any carrots??? Yes, there are / No, there aren't

For singular: Is there any olive oil? Yes, there is / No, there isn't.
